What is the Fusion MCP server?

Fusion MCP is Autodesk's official Model Context Protocol integration for Autodesk Fusion, built with Anthropic. A local server runs on your machine and executes commands in the live Fusion desktop session. A separate, cloud-hosted Fusion Data MCP server answers questions about Fusion Team project data. Both are bridges. They hand a general-purpose chat model access to the Fusion API and let it improvise.

Setup means enabling the local MCP server in Fusion's preferences, installing the connector, and keeping Fusion and a local MCP client open at the same time. Autodesk built and markets this specifically around the Claude desktop app; the Claude web app can't reach it. Other MCP-compatible clients like Cursor can technically point at the same local server, but there's no in-product way to switch models the way a dedicated model picker would give you.

Because it's a general chat model rather than an engineering agent, it shows. Hands-on reviews find it handles simple shapes with explicit dimensions but struggles with organic or complex parts, and independent write-ups describe it as an automation layer rather than a design generator.
