Adam for SOLIDWORKS

Your next SOLIDWORKS edit starts with a sentence.

Ask Adam to inspect a part, change a feature, or prepare a drawing. Adam works through your running SOLIDWORKS session, so you can review the result in the model and keep designing.

How to get started
  • Windows desktop connector
  • Native parts and drawings
  • Your SOLIDWORKS license

01 / Start here

Set up a useful first task.

  1. 01

    Connect your Windows PC

Sign in to Adam, open Integrations, and select SolidWorks. Install and pair Adam Connector on the Windows computer where SOLIDWORKS is installed.

  2. 02

    Open a part or assembly

Keep SOLIDWORKS running with the intended document open. Confirm that Adam reports the application as connected before starting work.

  3. 03

    Make a specific first request

Ask Adam to inspect the feature tree first. Give the dimensions to change, the geometry to preserve, and the checks you want after rebuilding.

02 / In your workflow

Work with the feature tree you already have.

A useful CAD edit starts by understanding the current part. Adam can inspect the active document, dimensions, features, and bodies before making changes through the SOLIDWORKS API.

Use it for sketch and feature edits, extrudes and cuts, fillets, holes, and patterns. Name the design intent as well as the target dimension: a mounting face that must stay fixed, a hole pattern that must remain centered, or a wall thickness that must remain constant.

  • Ask for the planned changes before applying a large edit.
  • Rebuild the document and inspect dependent features.
  • Check the saved native file, not only a viewport screenshot.

03 / In your workflow

Move from the part to a reviewable drawing.

Adam can help create drawing sheets and views, add dimensions and annotations, and export drawing files. Supply your drawing template, units, projection convention, and the dimensions that matter to the part's function.

Treat the output as a drawing to check. Fits, datum choices, tolerances, and manufacturing requirements still need engineering review before release.

04 / In your workflow

Keep the setup clear.

The SOLIDWORKS connection uses Adam Connector on Windows and a running SOLIDWORKS installation. Adam does not include a SOLIDWORKS license. Your connector must be paired and online for work in that desktop session.

Connecting a local CAD application does not make the AI service fully local. Review Adam's security information and discuss your organization's data requirements before connecting sensitive work.

Questions, answered

Before you start.

Can AI edit an existing SOLIDWORKS model?

Adam can inspect and edit models through your connected SOLIDWORKS session. The available edit depends on the part's construction. A native feature tree offers different options from an imported body without its original sketch history.

Does Adam work with SOLIDWORKS on a Mac?

The SOLIDWORKS connector runs on Windows. Pair the Windows computer that runs SOLIDWORKS; using Adam in a Mac browser does not turn SOLIDWORKS into a macOS application.

Do I need to write a macro?

You can describe the task in plain language. Adam uses the SOLIDWORKS integration to carry out the work. Give it clear dimensions and constraints, then inspect the resulting model or drawing.

Will the result stay editable?

Work performed in native SOLIDWORKS features remains in the document for you to inspect and edit. Importing a STEP body does not automatically recover its original feature history; reconstruction is a separate task.
